The Green Elephant Hostel & Spa

I recently stayed at The Green Elephant Hostel with my 3-year-old and 7-month-old in the family room, and I can't speak highly enough of our experience. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable, even with the little ones. The hostel is exceptionally clean and boasts a perfect location, just minutes from the station and a short walk to the gorgeous town centre. The breakfast options, even for vegans, were fabulous. The staff were not only extremely helpful and friendly but also showed remarkable knowledge about the area. Unfortunately, our 3-year-old fell ill during our stay, but the team was incredibly understanding. They provided fresh sheets and towels in the middle of the night and allowed us to use their washing and drying machines. Their kindness made an already perfect stay (despite the illness) even more memorable, and I genuinely hope to return soon. I highly recommend The Green Elephant Hostel for families and any other type of stay.

Nice location, close to the station. In the morning, the breakfast was not ready at the indicated time (07:00 AM). Food containers were mislabeled, such that no oat was available (which I am not intolerant to) and the oat jar was filled with breakfast cereal (which I am intolerant to). As I am intolerant to certain types of foods, I needed the staff to double check. No staff was available for questions. Because I had to catch a train to Belgium, I had to leave without having a proper breakfast (at 08:00 AM), it was a waste of money for the banana and boiled egg I took with me. There was no point in making a fuss at the place, as staff was generally unfriendly and unhelpful as I and others waiting experienced at check in. I stayed in a room without windows that also functioned as a facility room for the spa. Heck, the room wasn't even on the emergency floor plan. This meant that my room was just as hot and humid as the spa, and that I could look into the spa, and spa visitors could look back to me if I didn't close the curtains well enough. There was music playing in the spa and I could hear that and the visitors very well (it was open until 22:00). The electricity in the room did not function as it should: the main light switch was hooked up to the energy-saving system (you know, the system for using your room card to switch on electricity and switch it off when you leave). This meant I had to choose between recharging my devices (with all the lights on) or sleep (with all electricity off, not just the lights). After going to the reception and waiting for 15 minutes because nobody was present (and the doorbell system didn't function well I suppose), staff provided me with two manual lights. This didn't solve the issue, as the issue wasn't a lack of lights, but rather that I couldn't charge my devices during the night and sleep at the same time (because the main lights would stay on). Since I had to leave early in the morning, I had to go to bed later. Taken together with the lack of discipline regarding the breakfast time, it was a disappointing experience. To top it all off, I indicated at check in that I opt out of any advertising and newsletters. However, they have now sent me advertising emails three times even when I indicated (three times) in a personal email to their main email address that I don't want to receive such emailing. Thus, they don't take privacy and the GDPR seriously at this place. This place can only be recommended for people who are not on any kind of schedule what so ever, meaning you should tolerate not being able to sleep, not having breakfast, not being able to use the guest kitchen without notice.

Great location, very comfortable but potentially style over sense. We stayed in the tiny two-person pods. Very comfortable night's sleep, but the door looks out directly to the communal area with no frosted glass, offering little privacy (the pods are too small to get changed in). The showers outside of the pods area were locked all weekend. We were told they were shut for renovation and then they were suddenly open on the day we checked out. On the plus side, the breakfast was tasty and the communal area has a great vibe. On the negative side, the hostel claims to have a WhatsApp messaging feature but we never got a reply.

We, my wife and my little 4 year old son, went there last weekend (Friday - Saturday) due to my birthday for one day. We arrived earlier and booked an early check in for a little price. As we checked in too early, we haven't been served for 15-20 Minutes which was ok, cause it was way before 3 pm. We checked in by ourselfs (terminal) but needed some towels, this is why we needed some help. No one has been on the terminal for the time before. So if you decide to come earlier, maybe you need to wait a bit for personal check in (you can also check in on the terminal by yourself!!) We walked through the city and came back in the early evening, where we have been served directly. After a few drinks at the little bar, they recognized that I had birthday and placed a little gift and a card with nice words in our room. They have been really nice to us and we recommend everyone to stay here for a visit in Maastricht. Thanks again for this nice surprise and the nice welcome :-) All the best for you and your team!!

One of the worst experiences of my life. We had to stay in this hostel because we couldn't catch our bus. We chose this one because it was the closest. HOWEVER, there was no elevator for the cubic they gave us. So we had to carry two pieces of luggage (40kg) to the 3rd floor. We paid 50 Euro for literally just a bed on the floor. There was no room, it was a strange sort of a bunk bed room style. The bathrooms were shared and even though there were 2 showers, there was only one toilet. They just gave us the bedding and we had to put the bedding in a "room" where there was no space for two people to stand up at the same time, let alone change the bedding. The bed was also not comfortable at all. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

Green elephant maastricht Great location, it’s quiet and very close to the train and bus station. Friendly receptions, easy check-in, you can put your luggage too if you arrive too early. Got welcome smoothie and it was nice. You need to put your own linen, they will give it to you during check-in. Stayed in twin pod, it was smaller than expected. Kinda hard to move around and open the luggage (i had medium size luggage), it’s better to bring a smaller luggage or backpack instead. It can be a lil bit noisy since i got a pod next to the entrance to our room so i could hear all the banging doors, also wall is really thin so you can hear all the voice from all pods in the room. But overall people that stayed in our room was very nice because it was really quiet and i had a very nice sleep. Unfortunately, both of the bathrooms in our floor were being renovated. So we need to go downstairs to take a shower. Bathrooms and the toilet were cleaner than i expected tho. Overall nice experience and good for a 1 night stay.
